Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a session?

Sessions with my clients are relaxed and informal. Some time is spent at the initial consultation identifying what improvements you want to make in your life. I will get to know a little more about you and your background and then together we will work towards setting some agreed realistic and achievable goals before any therapeutic hypnosis work commences.

How many sessions will I need?

You will not be tied in to a lengthy course of therapy. The initial consultation is when the fact finding is done, a second session will then be tailor made to fit your requirements.  Following a second session we will then discuss improvements and decide together whether there is any therapeutic benefit for any further sessions.  Most people notice significant improvements after 3 to 4 sessions. Most phobias will be considerably reduced after the first session.

How long will a session last?

An initial consultation will last up to 1.5 hours. All subsequent sessions will be 1 hour long.

What's it like being in trance?

Unknowingly we all go in and out of trance every day.  Daydreaming or being engrossed in a movie or good book and not noticing the room that you are in are all types of trance.  If you've ever been in a car and 'lost' part of the journey, that's a hypnotic trance as well.

It is a comfortable, natural and relaxing state that people find very enjoyable.  You'll be able to hear my voice, as well as any other noises in the room.

If I'm unconscious in trance, what happens if there is an emergency?

Just to clarify, you will not be unconscious during trance.  If you were unconscious, I would be phoning '999'!

Should something untoward happen during a hypnotic session, you would be able to come out of trance quickly and easily enabling you to react in the appropriate fashion.

Can I get stuck in trance?

No!  The worst thing that could happen is that you would drift off to sleep.

Can I be made to tell you my secrets?

No!  You cannot be made to divulge your secrets, unless you want to, of course.

Can I be made to do silly things?

No!  The techniques that are used during a typical therapeutic session do not reflect those that you may have seen used by stage hypnotists.

No one can be made to do anything under hypnosis that they would not normally do when not in a hypnotic trance.  You are always in control.
