Grief, Loss & Moving On
Unfortunately, the majority of us will, at some point in our lifetime, experience grief and loss.
As hard as this is, it is a natural part of life. The depth of our feelings of loss is often a sign of the deepness of emotional attachment. Grief is not just about the loss of a loved one or pet. We can grieve for many different things, the loss of a job or business, moving to a new house, a change in health etc.
In essence grief is mourning someone or something which we no longer have in our lives or access to.
The 5 Stages of Grief
These are the 5 stages of grief. Not everyone experiences all of these stages and not necessarily in this order. In addition to that, individuals can often go back & forth between all or some of the stages. Grief works to its own timetable, in its own way.
1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance
Grief is a tricky thing, there are no rules or timescale to this, it is what it is. Every one of us is different, some people will experience each of the 5 stages, whilst others won’t. The order in which they appear above is not necessarily the way an individual will tread the path of loss. In addition to that, some people may walk back and forth along the path before they find their way to the end and start walking along a new trail.
Along with the emotional strain of grief and loss, many will experience physical symptoms such as a change in appetite, difficulty breathing or physical aches and pains.
